Horse Trough sold as Bath Enameled Horse Trough Sold as Bathtub
John Michael Kohler takes a horse trough/hog scalder, heats it up to 1700° F and covers it with enamel powder. He includes it in his catalog, describing it as "a horse trough/hog scalder when furnished with four legs will serve as a bathtub." The first bathtub is sold to a local farmer for a cow and 14 chickens. Troughs soon give way to more stylized bathtubs with rolled rims and brass fittings.
