Production of enamelware pedestal lavatories, toilets, urinals and drinking fountains begins and soon comprises 98% of the company's business. Innovative products include a one-piece lavatory with integral backsplash and a one-piece kitchen sink with integral drainboard.

John Michael Kohler moves his operation four miles west into the countryside to the village of Riverside, site of the present day Village of Kohler. Some businessmen of the day consider the move "folly" and don't understand why Kohler would move his business away from the center of the population with its skilled labor force, utilities and transportation. But with the freedom of space the country offers, the firm can expand without imposing itself upon a surrounding community.
