What is often regarded as the longest major strike in labor history began at Kohler Co. on April 5. It was called by United Auto Workers Local 833. The principal issues were provisions that the company regarded as serious infringements on its right to function in the best interest of its employees and stockholders. The strike ended Sept. 1, 1960.
