Internship Responsibilities

Our internship program at Kohler Co. allows prospective full-time associates to gain valuable experience in practical, everyday situations.

The skills learned by our interns directly correlate to those required for a successful career in our many business divisions.

Summer Intern opportunities are available in a wide range of disciplines, including:

Engineering

Engineering interns work with the best in the field. Our engineering interns are assigned many hands-on projects and an array of responsibilities.

To utilize your education and experiences, you may be asked to execute design engineering studies achieving appropriate technical results, while utilizing engineering fundamentals.

You will support design verification testing, including writing laboratory work requests, overseeing test progress and providing direct involvement in test activities.

You are involved with preparing summary documentation including conclusions and recommendations and communicating results to design engineers. And finally, as an intern, you will be tasked with maintaining project records, preparing technical reports on completed tasks, and documenting data and reports in the Engineering Archive.

The projects and assignments you experience will provide a solid foundation to support your engineering career.

Logistics

Logistics interns at Kohler Co. experience a wide variety of assignments ranging from compiling data for analysis and supply chain modeling to assisting in national pricing and vendor development.

You will also assist the logistics team with transportation pricing, contracts and execution of freight needs.

The gathering and analysis of the transportation pricing and lane data will help formulate transportation policy and reduce cost.

All of these assignments and experiences will help you gain a better understanding of Kohler’s logistics function, as well as provide a strong skill base to move your career forward.

Marketing/Sales

Planning, forecasting, implementing and reporting on marketing programs are just a few of the responsibilities of a Marketing/Sales intern at Kohler Co.

As an intern you may also act as a liaison between Marketing, Communications and Product Management in the development of literature and promotional materials to successfully launch new products into the marketplace.

Accounting/Finance

Accounting/Finance interns will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a number of areas within the Accounting/Finance organization, including Capital Planning & Analysis, Corporate Credit, Mergers & Acquisitions and Internal Audit.

As an intern you may assist with financial planning, standard costing, analysis of statements and reconciliation of the balance sheet for a particular business.

You may also participate in process improvement activities by being a member of a Business Process Redesign team.

This well-rounded experience provides a very good understanding of Kohler Co., which assists you in determining career path opportunities with the Company.

Communications

Communications interns are involved with many aspects of the internal and external Kohler branding initiatives.

As an intern assigned to an internal branding initiative, tasks may include researching, writing and editing content for Communications publications.

You may also be assigned the coordination and scheduling of photo shoots as well as proofing draft texts.

The external branding responsibilities assigned may include supporting various project management opportunities, such as Public Relations (PR), advertising collateral and international projects.

Additionally, you may be involved with developing KOHLER.com pressroom updates, PR electronic files updating, media inquires, PR writing and media list development and maintenance.

Layout and design for print pieces, custom logos and illustrations and assisting with production processes are all tasks you may be involved in as a Communications intern.

All of these assignments and experiences will help you gain a better understanding of what it is like to work with and to maintain a world-class brand within Kohler’s Communications department.

Human Resources

Human Resources (HR) interns are introduced to a variety of business processes.

In order to maximize your education and experiences, you are responsible for assisting hiring managers with the identification, interviewing, and selection of hourly and exempt-level positions, which may include working with third-party vendors to staff positions.

You are also tasked with assisting with new employee orientation and other training activities, as well as driving HR processes such as Core Competencies, performance management, succession planning and workforce planning.

These assignments and responsibilities will help you gain a better understanding of the Human Resources function and role within the business units while developing your skills for future career opportunities.

Safety

Safety interns at Kohler Co. will have an opportunity to gain valuable experience in our manufacturing environment.

As a Safety intern you will not only evaluate and implement safety programs and projects supporting the business Safety Training Program but also perform accident investigations and take corrective action to prevent future reoccurrence.

Additionally, you will provide monthly safety reviews, reports and summaries on progress and trends.

As an intern you will have the opportunity to partner and work with Kohler Medical Services to evaluate claims and lost work days, and recommend improvement, as well as work with the Factory Safety Coordinator to implement compliance safety programs (lockout/tagout, orientation and industrial safety) in the business units.

Aircraft Maintenance

Aircraft Maintenance interns have the exciting responsibility of maintaining Kohler's aircrafts under the supervision of Aircraft Technicians.

As an intern, you are not only expected to assist the Aircraft Technicians with daily routine aircraft maintenance, but also assist in dispatching and recovering aircraft and participate in maintenance duties of hangar and ground-support equipment.

Technicians work closely with the interns and will instruct you on the proper aircraft maintenance procedures and delegate work to you as your abilities dictate.

Your assignments will provide a solid foundation to support your future aircraft maintenance career.
