We purchased the Kohler Stargaze K-1958-GHW-0 as part of a high-end bathroom remodel, trusting Kohler’s reputation for quality. Unfortunately, this has turned into one of the most frustrating product experiences we’ve ever had.

From day one, the air-bubble function did not work. The bask heater functioned, but the primary feature we purchased this tub for was completely non-functional. Our contractor contacted Kohler support, and we were told the issue was likely a cable connecting the pump. We waited a week for the replacement part, then had to coordinate both plumbers and electricians to return, fully disconnect the tub, and physically remove it just to replace the cable. After all of that effort and additional cost, the issue was not resolved.

We then spent nearly an hour on hold with Kohler while tradespeople sat idle, only to be told that yet another part would be shipped as part of an ongoing “trial-and-error” troubleshooting process. What’s most frustrating is that Kohler appears to have no consideration for the real-world impact of this approach. This is not a simple plug-and-play product—every attempted fix requires full disassembly, plumbing disconnect, and physically lifting the tub out of its installed base. Each attempt adds significant labor cost and disruption.

This points to a deeper issue: poor product design. There is no reasonable service access, meaning even basic troubleshooting requires invasive and expensive teardown. For a product in this price range (over $6,000), that is simply unacceptable. A thoughtfully designed access panel would have avoided much of this cost and frustration.

Equally disappointing is the lack of customer empathy. At no point has Kohler acknowledged the burden placed on us or offered any meaningful accommodation. Instead, we’ve been met with scripted responses like “we don’t do that,” while we continue to absorb the cost and inconvenience of repeated service calls.

At this point, we are left questioning both the quality of the product and the level of support behind it. What should have been a premium, relaxing addition to our home has become an ongoing and expensive problem.

Regrettable Purchase

Kohler needs to refund and take this model off the market! Air bath does not turn on consistently, bask heat has never worked, and the tub has now shocked me twice! Extremely loud, even after moving to the basement and insulating for sound, and the purge cycle sometimes turns on in the middle of the night, waking everyone in the house. This product is not only a waste of money but very dangerous.
