Main Global Footer Experience Fragment

We chose this base as a part of a complete bathroom re-model.  We took out an old bathtub in a 100+ year old building and replaced it with this cast iron base.  One of the main reasons for this was the ease of installation and the top quality.  I wasn't really interested in doing all the prep work to install a new shower base and this option looked really good.  I was super nervous about the delivery, but it was no problem at all.  My son and I carried the base up to the bathroom.  After preparing the new subfloor and setting the pads for the feet of the base, we set it in place and that was it.  We were done.  The rest of the remodel was blocking it into place and tiling the shower.  The instructions were very good and the quality is awesome.  I put some insulation under the base to keep down some of the noise below us, but it's probably not needed.  This base is rock solid.  My only caution is that when replacing this with older work, the plumbing connections can be a little dicey.  Very doable, but takes a little care.  We're very happy with the base.  Easy to clean and keep looking great.

Solid Choice - Premium Quality

The cast iron shower pan is basically stunning (extremely heavy, but stunning).  I originally intended to have a frameless shower glass door installed, only to find out I can’t.  No installer wants to risk of damaging the enamel on the cast iron.  I wish Kohler had predrilled wholes on the cast iron for this feature to be added.  And perhaps included pluggins for the predrilled holes.  I’m sure most will agree that frameless shower doors is the way to go.  Otherwise the product is perfect.

Great shower base but

We installed this base pan about 7 years ago in a major remodel but now regret it. The cast iron construction and enamel coating are just great but why oh why do they have those non slip strips made of whatever material it is. Now the strips have become modeled color and very unattractive and we cannot get them cleaned. This is why they sell shower mats that suction to a nice smooth enamel surface. Talked to a local Kohler store but no help, looked a cleaning instructions on the Kohler website but no help and the chat site never seems to operate. Buyer beware.
