I was thrilled to get this 3 port diverter. However, after the plumber installed it and opened up the water lines to it, it leaked. A steady drip came from the rear of the valve body. There was a small crack in the rear body. Kohler immediately replaced it after submitting photos of exactly where it was leaking/dripping.  How this unit passed quality control remains a mystery to me. The replacement one was fine.

The second one worked!

choose this system for large walk in shower.  We have poor water pressure whether using shower, rainhead or handheld (never together).  Have traditional Kohler products in recent remodel of additional bath.

Poor water pressure!

We renovated our bathroom last summer/fall. We purchased the Anthem 3-port from an authorized distributor and had it installed by a licensed plumber under the supervision of a professional contractor. After finding water dripping into our basement storage area from multiple spots, the plumber determine the Anthem unit not only had two leaking cartridge valves, the water that was coming out of them was not all draining into the shower. I saw with my own eyes water dripping from one of the valves and disappearing into the Anthem between the gray foam and the metal beneath the valve without being redirected into the shower. Now we are looking at either tearing out the shower tile or ripping the wall apart in the bedroom closet behind the Anthem.

Fixing the faulty cartridges gives me no peace of mind if the unit itself will leave my basement, subflooring and wall interiors wet if the cartridges ever fail again. We already are going to have to clean up a mess that neither I, the plumber nor the contractor should have to pay for.

Like others have mentioned, I've had my anthem for less than a year before the hot water stopped working.  I've replaced all cartridges ( there are 6 of them for the 3 valve model) and not even a year later, it stopped working again. Likely the cartridge design is flawed.  Stay away from this product.

Looks and functions well when working

Similar to mjdn99's comments, we were very attracted to this product's design. Operationally speaking however the unit has never worked. The cold water has never gone colder than lukewarm. In late June of 2024, the water pressure for the hot water fell off a cliff until the point it just stopped working all together. It appears this feedback is not limited to the Kohler forum as I was able to find a person with very similar issues on Reddit.

The plumber tells me that the only path forward is to replace the cartridges. I trust my contractor very much as he's done multiple jobs for us at this point (and another bathroom) with zero issues. Perhaps we need to speak with a certified Kohler plumber? At this point our main concern is that our new bathroom has been rendered useless after one year. Is the answer to continuously throw parts at the problem? Anyone who has done a reno knows that the process alone is frustrating. To have your beautiful new bathroom shower break within almost a year of use is incredibly frustrating.

Broken within 12 months of use

There's no question that this a BEAUTIFUL control. It's slick, it's modern, it's functional, and it's super cool to be able to press buttons to turn on and off the various components of the shower, while pre-setting the temperature to your liking so it's the same every time. Very cool. At face value and upon install, it was a 5-start product.

However, in under a year of use, the temperature control was suddenly non-functional. It wouldn't get cold at all; the valve wasn't mixing correctly, and would go from luke-warm to hot. I was able to troubleshoot/fix this by following Kohler's installation video and adjusting the stem of the valve, and that worked for about a month... but just days ago, out of nowhere, it became non-functional in the other direction: NO HOT WATER. When turning to the hot, it's just a trickle of very cold water. When turning to the cold, it's full-pressure/ice-cold, as it should be. Adjusting the stem extension doesn't do anything now. It's always cold, no matter what I do. It's as if something is preventing the hot water from even reaching the mixing valve to mix with the cold. Hot water is working fine in the rest of the bathroom/apartment, so it's definitely an issue with the valve.

So now we have a beautiful--but non-functional--shower. It's beyond frustrating, as we didn't expect a company like Kohler to sell a product that fails like this. Very worried about the prospect of a costly and time-consuming repair, and no idea where to start. Based on some research and other reviews, it appears we're not the first buyers this problem has happened to, either.

If Kohler is able to troubleshoot and fix this issue, I will update this review and rating as appropriate, but for now, I sadly can't recommend this valve or valve control, as beautiful as it is. It's simply not reliable; you don't want to worry about your shower becoming unusable in under a year of use.

BUYER BEWARE! Failed within a year of use.

I appreciate my decision to go with Kohler. We have had various issues while installing this valve with our plumbers. Some parts broken, missing during installation but every issues were handled by support team with great respect and understanding. After multiple tries by our plumbers and no right installation, Kohler sent their plumbers to take care of the installation issues. Randy's plumbing was given the task and they booked appointment soon after they were given orders and technician arrived on scheduled time, fixed everything within hours. Many days of frustration with the shower installation but at the end with the help of great service by Kohler it is satisfying to see running shower. 

Word of advise for installing this valve: Get plumber with right knowledge for installing this one. 

No doubt Kohler is great and Service is also marvelous. Thank you Kohler.

Service Review

My father-in-law and husband installed this item. I found the instruction video very informative. I do want to stress that you pay close attention to the minimum and maximum lines. We had planned the tile to line right up with the max line but did not account for the mortar. Luckily we had just enough space (with all the piping, niche, vent) behind it, to push it forward to be within those lines.

NEED RXPERT! The Anthem system is beautiful & very convenient to use for all of the shower/tub combinations. However, my plumber had great difficulty installing it. I've heard such opposing experiences and I wish JONNIE Z could help troubleshoot for me.

MY PROBLEM: During installation, plumber could get hot or cold but couldn't get the valves to mix. Now it mixes to warm & hot works but I'm unable to get any colder than lukewarm water. Any solutions to this ongoing problem?? This is a safety hazard for me bc I have neuropathy & can't judge temperature on my feet & hands. I need to rely on dial but that doesn't line up at all (photo line supposed to line up with dots from hot to cold but mine only turns across bottom where there are no dots??). Any help so appreciated! This ruined our remodel & we can't change out valve without ripping down tile.
