I replaced a Kohler toilet seat with the soft close type. The new one was great except it doesn't soft close all of the way down. Instead it rapidly drops to a point where the resistance begins and you get the same result in both units, but I think I either have a defect or it's the way the news ones are now.

Between the two homes I’ve lived in over the last 6 years I have had new Kohler toilets which I have been very happy with.  That said, 6 different times I have had to replace various Kohler brand toilet seats, none of which were more than 3 years old when they broke.  Each has cracked in the front or back, starting with a small crack which grew until it cracked all the way through, requiring a completed seat replacement.  All products we use are genuine Kohler, purchase at first at Home Depot, and more recently from Kohler directly, as we started purchasing directly on the basis at the Kohler products from Home Depot may made be a lesser quality.

We are not overweight -heaviest person is the house is 185 lbs- nor do we abuse the seats, so I cannot understand how these continue to break.  I have also had to change 2 additional Kohler seats at my parents’ home.

Kohler is a brand synonymous with American made quality, so this should not be happening. A strongly encourage the manufacturer to improve the quality of materials and design to prevent this from happening.

Great product, while it lasts

Easy to install but quick release does not seem to work.  I unlock it but it doesn’t move. I tried to pull pretty hard but didn’t want to break anything. Very disappointing.

Quick release not working

I was surprised that in the house that I bought recently, although modern and nicely equipped, the toilet seats were not soft closing. 
Replacing the seats was quick and easy. No more accidental sounds of “bang” in the middle of the night:)

Quiet

This is a well made and designed seat for the toilet. We love the soft closing so you don’t have to hear the clunk.

My original toilet seats had soft close seats and lids.   These only have soft close seats, and the lids slam against the seats when closing both.
