Toilet came defective

I love this toilet with cleansing seat. It has a night light of sorts when the lid opens sensing movement. The heated seat is wonderful.

Heated seat

We recently purchased the bidet smart toilet not ever having or using a bidet.  We love it and would never trade it back to a regular toilet. Great features.

New Experience

I completely upgraded my home to be modern and techy. I felt that this piece would add what I was looking for in the bathroom. This toilet has definitely been a talking point of my family and friends. One day it just stopped flushing. Then due to the storm the power went out and it "fixed itself". Now it won't stop flushing and the lid will not close. We are now plugging in the toilet before use and unplugging it after. I've tried calling but the wait time for someone is pretty long and I work full time. 
When the toilet is working as intended it is definitely worth the money spent. Otherwise you're trying to figure out why it's so glitchy. 
I just want the toilet to work as intended.

Less than 3 months and has serious water leak near the water connection causing flooding. This happed while we were out of town for long weekend so whole floor was flooded. 
I like the feature of this toilet but it it is very risky as there is no water leak prevention and seems to have a poor quality.

Flooded the house - very poor quality

We loved this toilet until it almost destroyed our house. One evening while my husband was brushing his teeth he heard the toilet start to run in the WC. He looked in and saw water running from underneath the toilet. He quickly turned off the water and unplugged it. Turns out that little piece of metal holds the fitting on and it has separated. If he had not been right there our house would have flooded. I’ve never seen a more poorly designed piece of garbage for this price. We’ve reported the issue to Kohler. Now we have to pay to have a different toilet installed, no way will I ever trust a Kohler brand.

Poor Design

I bought mine when they were a lot more expensive than they are now, so the price is not bad for the technology in this toilet, in my opinion.  I bought it because everyone I know that has used a bidet said they love them, now I am one of those people!

Expensive, and worth it!

Hi! 

To anyone looking to buy this toilet. we have it installed for less than 24hours, and overall, seems like a good purchase. 

I felt the need to write this for one giant reason, the instructions provided for install are literally the worst. My wife and I spent 2 hours trying to figure out how to install this toilet, we read, re-read, and re-re-read the instructions and finally realized the install manual is literally missing several steps in it. 1st, when you unpack and remove the "base" of the toilet from the porcelain, you end up with a plastic base with styrofoam. The styrofoam area is the "tank" of the toilet (which seems odd at first and is not clear this is where water will sit). This base has several pieces that come off the back, one is a plastic hose, that has no stopper in it (this is important later). We also found the porcelain toilet also has the same connections coming off it (which they all join together in the end). The porcelain had a 3 point water connecter, connected to the flexible water hose coming off the porcelain. The first install instruction describes this connector as being on the plastic base. 

It took us a while to figure out the connector was on the porcelain and not the base (not that big of a deal, but when you're looking for a part and it's not where it says it its, makes you think the toilet is missing parts). Then- you install the base on the o-ring to the floor. Once there it has you connect the water line to the flexible connector to the base. The instructions then say to turn the water on... please remember, there is a clear plastic tube next to all the electronic connections of the base, with no stopper. I saw this and thought, I bet water shoots right out the end of this, so I got a towel, and then we continued the instructions. Turn the water on, and yep, water starts to fill the base, and shoots straight out the end of the clear tube. Turn the water off, look through the instructions, zero instructions on what to do with the tube, place it in the base? If not, why is there no stopper, and where does this go and what does it do? We plug the hole with our thumb, adjust the water float in the base, and then turn the water off. 

The adjusting of the float has no instructions other than a bad picture of turning a screw right and left top adjust the float, but, this is covered by a metal bracket, and it doesn't describe anywhere to remove this bracket first (while it sounds like it should be "easy enough" it should also be "easy enough" to actually write all the steps down, and not make people try to figure it out through trial and error). We find the plastic tube connects to another plastic tube in the porcelain. We place the porcelain over the base, which is no easy feat, considering every tube, wire, connector, and water line has about 2 inches of line off the back fo the toilet, which makes it hard to get everything connected and seated properly. Once we connect all the wiring, tubes, and water lines, we plug the toilet in, the lights come on, and it refuses to flush. We had to go back, unseat, and re-seat the connectors to get it to start flushing. 

Now, the toilet is installed, and another big issue is the finishing instructions say to drill screws into these holes at the base of the toilet. 30 minutes later and we can't figure this out. We have no idea what it's "screwing into", the base shows what looks like black plastic and some metal piece visible from the hole, but zero screw holes. We tried to find a way to screw them in and nothing happened, I'm not sure if your expected to drill into the plastic, but as before, there's zero instructions, just says drill the screws in... ahhhhh no thanks, I don't need to take 2 hours to install a toilet to drill screws into an unknown base and break the toilet. So we went without these screws, I'm not sure how that will affect anything, since the base is pretty solid on the ground. 

Either way, the instructions absolutely suck, the pictures do no justice, I felt like we were installing something that was confusing and missing steps. The very last step talks about somehow shoving this mess of wires and connectors back into the space between the porcelain and base, good luck with that, I tried several times and felt like I was going to snap the plastic connectors, so we just left all the wires pushed out the back (not a big deal as you can't see it), and even if we had gotten them in, the plastic cover for the base has some instruction about cutting a big hole in the semi-circular cover, and it references marks on the cover, which literally don't exist, for the price of this toilet, I am shocked at what appears to be a hastily put together instruction manual. 

I'd think, with the toilet being a major manufacturer of anything bathroom related, would have beyond clear instructions. It was wild, my wife and I kept asking each other how we missed steps, or why we couldn't figure something out, and then realized it's literally nowhere in any of the instructions. You may find you love the toilet (too early for us to tell, but so far so good), but dang, the instructions are the worst. 

*One more issue, the instructions for setting up the controller, pretty easy to understand, but, it doesn't actually describe what some of the functions do, one example is the "low power" mode. The instructions say it "turns off the heated seat", and then in the menu of the controller it just says "3hours, 6 hours, 9 hours, or off", 3 hours, 6 hours 9 hours of what? Of the seat being off? Of the seat being on and then turning off after that time goes by? Why do I want the heated seat off, if its a feature of the toilet? Same thing with the deodorizer, what is it? Is it just a charcoal filter, does it have a scent feature, what exactly does it do? 

Summary: Theres just a lot of unanswered and poorly written instructions. So basically it's a neat toilet, terrible instructions, and good luck installing it!
