I just installed the cartridge and new cap. I followed the video procedure. A couple notes: 1. I spent a lot of time scrubbing off corrosion and cleaning away mineral residue that had stuck to the inlet ports. This alone took me about 45 minutes of scrubbing with a green abrasive pad. I made sure that the entire inside surface of the valve body was smooth to the touch before proceeding. 2. The outlet seals are much easier to install if you snug them into the cap rather than trying to thread them onto the cartridge. The cap has a nice channel that they naturally snug into, whereas the cartridge has a raised flange which I was not able to thread the seals on to. When I was done, the installation is working very well with no leaks!

Some installation notes

My 20-year old shower was leaking out the shower head even after replacing the mixer cap (rotating valve).  Then I bought this, the pressure balancing unit (PBU) and after replacing both, there are no leaks and it works better than new.  Kohler will say that this PBU is not the solution to a leaky shower head, but it was for me. Watch the Kohler installation video and buy both this PBU and the temperature regulator and you will be good as new.  The parts change out quickly and easily with simple tools.  I also used a plastic scrubbing brush to polish all the brass seating surfaces that this seals against.  Good quality and works perfect the first time.

Better than the original PBU

I wish I knew kohler customer service before hiring a plumber. It would save me so much headaches, time and money! Everything went fine with the remote support to replace a bathtub valve that the plumber had damaged!

Hard to find valve for leaky shower, made easier because of Kohler website. Order the valve had plumber install.

Easy replacement

Replaced old valve with the new one. Works perfectly. Water temperature back to normal. Previously it was scorching hot.
